The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kogi says it has been making efforts at clearing gridlock at Kabba junction on Okene-Kabba-Lokoja road.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the gridlock at the junction was heightened in the early hours of Saturday.
An articulated vehicle broke down on the narrow Okene-Kabba-Lokoja road, resulting in the gridlock.
Corps Commander Stephen Dawulung, Kogi FRSC Sector Commander, who spoke to NAN on the incident, described the development as “very unfortunate
“As you can see, our personnel are sweating to ensure that the gridlock, which began about two hours ago is cleared.
“The gridlock built up as a result of a broken down truck along the highway.
“Unfortunately when it happens like that, it takes the grace of God and efforts of men to remove the truck.
“This kind of problem of trucks break down on our highways happens once a while but thank God our personnel are ever ready to clear the roads for easy traffic flow
“I am assuring you that very soon the gridlock will be cleared for free flow of traffic.
“The joy of it all is that our towing vehicle is there and the traffic is even flowing though at a slow pace.”
He expressed concern about what he described as impatience of motorists in a situation where a vehicle breaks down on the highway.
According to him, Kogi is a gateway state that experiences heavy flow of traffic, especially articulated vehicles, which at any breakage, the next thing is gridlock.
The sector commander, therefore, called on motorists to always ensure the road worthiness of their vehicles before embarking on a journey.(NAN(www.nannews.ng)
