Lagos, Feb. 12, 2023 (NAN) Two Islamic clerics and a Muslim group, on Sunday expressed confidence on the appointment of Mr Onipede Olayiwola-Saheed, as the new Secretary of Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.

The clerics, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, said that Olayiwola-Saheed  was fit for the position and that expectations were high for his expertise.

NAN reports that Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, on Wednesday appointed  Olayiwola-Saheed as Secretary, Lagos Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.

Olayiwola-Saheed, an Assistant Director in the Lagos State Civil Service, is expected to bring his wealth of experiences to bear on the board.

The Chief Missioner, Jejewiyyat Muslim Association of Nigeria and Overseas (JMANO), Prof. Abdulkadil Adewale-Paramole, said that the appointment of Olayiwola-Saheed did not come as surprise.

Adewale-Paramole, a member of the pilgrims board, said the board had been well administered since 2002 with different secretaries, adding that the appointment of Olayiwola-Saheed was for the good of the organisation.

“This is an agency that caters for people’s travel arrangements and welfare during pilgrimage to the holy land.

“A topnotch official in the likes of Olayiwola-Saheed is needed to keep the place in order.

“We know that previous chief executives did well to improve on the agency’s services to faithful.

“It is our belief that with the coming on board of this brilliant, neatly dressed and accomplished officer, most of the grey areas in the organisation will be improved upon to make faithful enjoy pilgrimage,” he said.

Also, Alhaji Abdul-Azeez Onike, Chief Missioner, Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT) Nigeria, said that the appointment of Olayiwola-Saheed was a reform to strengthen the body for the better.

Onike said the Government had continued to show leadership in the advancement of the status of the board’s physical and human resources for the common good.

He implored the new Secretary to use his new position for the service of God and humanity by ensuring that preparations for, travel to and stay of pilgrims in the holy land were seamless.

Also speaking on the appointment, NASFAT Secretary, Mr Abdulrahman Adogie, said that the new secretary is expected to bring fresh air to the administration of the body to enable it overcome unpleasant challenges faithful encounter in the holy land. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
